ANNIE will be the biggest extravaganza
to take place on stage at the
to date. The show has everything: great singers singing great music, enthusiastic
singing and dancing orphans, fantastic sets, fabulous costumes, a professional
orchestra, superb choreography, and professional sound and lighting.
ANNIE is based on the long running Tribune
comic strip "Little Orphan Annie" and deals with Annie's optimistic quest
to find the parents who abandoned her eleven years ago at a New York City orphanage
run by the comedic villain, Ms. Hannigan. To improve his image, wealthy industrialist
Oliver Warbucks sends his secretary, Grace, to the orphanage to bring "an orphan"
home to spend Christmas at his mansion. ANNIE is a
story about the love that grows between these two unlikely people. The
plot thickens when President Roosevelt seeks Warbucks help to bring the country
out of the worst depression in history, and Warbucks calls upon Roosevelt and
the F.B.I. to help locate Annie's missing parents. Mrs. Hannigan's brother, Rooster,
and his girl friend, Lilly, complicate things when they impersonate Annie's parents
to collect the $50,000 reward offered by Warbucks. As in most musicals, all ends
well. ANNIE has it all:
an adorable, well-behaved dog; singing and dancing orphans; great character parts
for actors and singers; the President of the United States; political satire;
an orphan inventing the New Deal; Warbucks' conversion from hard-hearted business
man to Daddy Warbucks; and Christmas! ANNIE was originally
directed by Martin Charmin, who also wrote the lyrics. Charles Strouse wrote the
score. Kate Miller is playing the
title role of Annie with Ryan VanAntwerp playing the role of
Oliver Warbucks. Playing Warbucks' secretary, Grace, is Angela Latimer
and Kortnee Lamarre as Mrs. Hannigan, the comedic villain. Anthony
Aikens will be seen as Rooster with Angela Lackey as
Lily St. Regis, who is named after the Hotel. Jerome Rickard
is playing Bert Healy and Larry Lapaglia plays Warbucks' butler
Drake. Bill Biggadike is seen in the role of the ever optimistic
President Roosevelt. Cabinet members are Jennifer VanAntwerp, Kent Hofstad,
Duane Neel, and Nicholas Wilhelm. The "star to be" is Jayme Allison.
Lee Edwards is playing Mr. Bumbles. The role of Annie's infamous
dog Sandy is being played by "Leslie" Muschalek. The
real stars of the show are the orphans and include: Reagan Roby
and Madison Davenport as Molly, Elise Lapaglia
as July, Danielle Hand as Duffy, Demi Payne
as Tessie, Emily Bushnell as Pepper, Betsey Aguirre,
Jayme Allison, Vanessa Bazan, Allie Cook, Casey Cowey, Chloe Craft, Leah Dunks,
Adrianna Edwards, Madison Fritter, Alysha Hayden, Carly Heffelfinger, Lacey Hilborn,
Mia Hofstad, Kayla Jobman, Kara Jobman, Kristen Ludeke, Alyssa Lussier, Hannah
Matschek, Rachel Muschalek, Samantha Neel, Mackenzie Neel, Lauren Peterman, Betsy
Phillips, Stacy Rickard, Shanna Ryan, Tyler Roby, Hannah Rushing, Lindsey Smith,
Stephanie Westbrook. The other ANNIE
cast members play many parts and are seen as Warbucks' domestic staff,
Hooverville Homeless, New York City townspeople, and talk radio show performers.
In alphabetical order they include Jayme Allison, Jill Benson, Penelope
Biggadike, Allie Cook, Lee Edwards, Neil First, Anne Hair, Danny Hayden, Kent
Hofstad, Marcia Kelly, Donna Mayfield, Dayna Miller, Cason Miller, Christi Morrow
Haverer, Duane Neel, Sarah Povlish, Stephanie Puga, Kasey Ryan, Karen Shipper,
Bill Thompson, Jennifer VanAntwerp, Jane Wilhelm, Nicholas Wilhelm, Zachary Wilhelm,
Anna Williams, and Ann Young. Cal
Collins is the Producer and Director of ANNIE.
Collins readily admits that he doesn't know anything about music, but he loves
producing and directing musicals. He also knows exactly what he wants a song to
sound like and how he wants a scene to look his set designs are brilliant.
Collins lived in the Chicago area where he produced and directed over 14 musicals
in a small town outside Chicago in a theatre undergoing renovation and renewal.
His musicals put that theatre on the map. According to Janet Allen,
Executive Director, "The people he worked with in Chicago gave him glowing
recommendations and would love to get him to move back." In his "real life" Collins
is a sales manager for Red McComb and is personally funding the ANNIE
production. Music director Anne Hair and Allen both say, "We would like to keep
Collins here!" This production is a benefit for the
Renovation Project. A portion of the proceeds after expenses will be donated to
the theatre. However, the main beneficiaries of this production are the children
in the show. They have had an experience of a life-time, and had fun doing it
( says Anne Hair). Angela Lackey
is the Production Assistant and costume designer. Lackey has a Bachelor of Fine
Arts in Acting and a Master of Arts degree in theatre history. She has designed
costumes professionally in New York State, and has been seen in "OZ" as the wicked
witch and in "Fiddler on the Roof" as Chava. Music
directors are Anne Hair and Karl Hedrick. Hair
has a Bachelors of Music degree in voice, choral conducting and vocal performance
and a Master's of Secondary Education in mid-management and supervision. As a
choral director in Houston, Texas, for 22 years, she produced and directed over
twenty musicals. She also supervised the Fine Arts Department as assistant principal
at Pearland High School for eight years before moving to New Braunfels. She is
the choral director for the New Braunfels Christian Academy and will be co-directing
NBCA's production of "Bye, Bye Birdie," which opens in May 2, at the .
She is also the director or the New Braunfels Community Chorale. Hedrick
is a student at Southwest Texas State University where he is working on his master's
degree in music, majoring in piano and composition. He has been involved in several
area productions including "Into the Woods", "Oklahoma", "Fiddler on the Roof",
and the Texas Shakespeare Festival. Hedrick will direct the orchestra for ANNIE
and Hair will perform in the show. The choreographer
is Tina Slone, who majored in dance at Southwest Texas State
University. Slone taught dance at Judson High School for thirteen years and is
now teaching private dance classes in New Braunfels. In
addition to regular ticket locations, tickets are also available at New
Braunfels Music located in the Target shopping center; Todd Smith,
DDS located at 1583 East Common St.; Suite 202, Canyon Lake Office
Supply at 1768 F.M. 2673; and from all cast members.
