Am Evening with Mel Tillis
October 17, 2015
The Brauntex Theatre is very excited to kick off its 15th Anniversary with the country music legend, Mel Tillis. Mel has been in the music and entertainment business for more than 50 years. He moved to Nashville in the late 1950’s and landed a job as a songwriter, penning hits for Ray Price, Brenda Lee, Webb Pierce and Bobby Bare. His solo career took off in 1968 with the hit “Who’s Julie.” More hit songs followed quickly, such as “I Ain’t Never,” “Sawmill,” “Mental Revenge,” and “Coca-Cola Cowboy.” He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007 and is a longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry. Mel has written over 1,000 songs during his career and over 600 have been recorded by major artists. These hits include “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town,” “Detroit City” and “Thoughts of a Fool,” just to name a few. In addition to his career in music, Tillis has also appeared in many hit movies, like “Cannonball Run II” and “Smokey & the Bandit II.” Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see a true country music icon in concert.
